Can somebody please explain ETL software to me? I think this is what I need to take my business to the next level; I’m just not sure I understand exactly what ETL means.
ETL software Extracts, Transforms and Loads data to produce important reports that paint a picture of what’s going on in every department of your company. ETL software works like the transit system: it picks your data up from a number of designated stops and transports them all together to their final destination – the data warehouse.
So what’s the difference between Datacus and ETL?
First and foremost, Datacus is much more user-friendly and easier to set up than ETL software. You don’t need a team of consultants to get you up and running with Datacus; your CFO or accountant can do it for you! Secondly, ETL software doesn’t allow you to validate data before reports are created, so you’re likely to have the same problem with this as you did when you were crunching the numbers into Excel.
What are “Collectors” and “Conveyors,” and why are they important?
Datacus uses Collectors to gather data from various systems and conveyors to place your data into a designated system or report. Both Collectors and Conveyors can be built by your accountant or one of our consultants.
Couldn’t I do all of this with Excel?
You could, but why would you want to? Datacus lets you create rules that virtually eliminate manual entry of data. This means that you won’t have to worry about user errors. What’s more, when you use Datacus, every time a change is made to your data set, the change is recorded and stored, so all of your files are fully auditable.
I’m not quite sure what SOX is… Maybe you could help?
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was adopted by Congress and signed into law in 2002. Basically, it is a set of rules that govern publically traded companies. It makes it nearly impossible for people within companies to embezzle money and to cover their tracks.
How can Datacus make my company’s practices SOX compliant?
Datacus is simply amazing at producing comprehensive audit trails. Every single data transaction made by Datacus is recorded and stored for auditing purposes. These audit trails can help make your company SOX compliant.
I have data stored in an application that isn’t listed anywhere on your site. Can I still use Datacus?
For Datacus to be as useful as possible, we’re constantly developing new Collectors and Conveyors to expand our user base. In fact there’s a good chance we’re already working on a solution for your product. If you’re serious about Datacus, let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll move yours up on the list! Do you have custom software that would need a completely unique connection? We can do that too.
Couldn’t I just write my own software to move data around?
Sure, you can do that. Building custom software takes a long time, and it can be far more expensive than purchasing a product that has already gone through extensive testing. It’s risky to use a product that isn’t thoroughly proven. A lot of work goes into creating user interfaces, like Datacus, and these projects often go well over the original budget.
With all the other options available, what makes Datacus the best choice for me?
Our team has been writing custom software to move customer data for more than 10 years. During that time, we’ve noticed a trend… there are certain components that almost all of our clients really seem to need. After months of brainstorming, evaluating, and development, we’ve come up with a software suite that lets any-sized company perform functions that would normally only be available to mega-corporations through very expensive custom programming. And now, everyone can capitalize on our experience!
Can somebody at my office set Datacus up, or do you have to come out and install it for us?
We’ve designed Datacus to be simple enough for your neighbor’s teenager to set up and operate. You may notice that it functions very much like the programs you already know and love (i.e. Excel or QuickBooks.) However, if you don’t have the time or the desire to install it on your own, we offer a Datacus Implementation package, which will include some initial training to get you up and running.
How long will it take us to learn how to use Datacus?
If you already know how to create formulas in Excel, you’re just a few clicks away from being a Datacus pro. Assuming that your users are familiar with basic computing skills, it will be very easy for them to adapt to Datacus.
I know ETL software can be really expensive, how much will I be paying for Datacus?
That’s the easy question! We offer Datacus to all different sizes of business, with software packages starting at $1,999 for small companies. You could also purchase a maintenance contract to keep your version of Datacus up-to-date for less than a dollar a day.
